Trail mix recipes are simple. And this one is probably the easiest one you’ll find – because there’s only 4 ingredients!
I absolutely love making a big batch of homemade trail mix, storing it in a mason jar, and having it on hand for when we need a quick and healthy snack. It’s also a PERFECT trail mix recipe for kids, because its easy to pack in a lunchbox!
There are a lot of ways to make an easy trail mix recipe. This particular recipe only has 4 ingredients! I really wanted to keep it simple – because that’s typically the way I roll, but if there’s something you want to add in, by all means, do it.
This recipe is peanut free because we follow the paleo diet most of the time. Peanuts are legumes, which aren’t allowed on the paleo diet. I’m also really sensitive to peanuts so I do my best to avoid them. However, peanuts are commonly used in traditional trail mix recipes, so if you’re really missing the peanuts, then go ahead and throw some in there.
M&M’s are also a popular thing to add to trail mix. And while I’m sure it’s tasty, I’m not a fan of the artificial colors. Why not just skip the M&M’s and use chocolate chips instead?! You still get the sweet and salty combo – just without the artificial coloring.
