This strawberry banana smoothie is super creamy and totally delicious.  We love the classic flavor combination of strawberries and bananas and the addition of the coconut milk just puts it over the top. ?

How to make a strawberry banana smoothie

There’s many ways to make a strawberry banana smoothie.  Most strawberry banana smoothies are made with yogurt, or cow’s milk.  This one is totally dairy free with the use of coconut milk!  You can also customize it to your liking.  If you need it sweeter, add a drizzle of honey.

How to make a strawberry banana smoothie:

1) Place one can of chilled coconut milk into a high speed blender. (you can also sub almond or cashew milk, or even water)
2) Add the chia seeds
3) Add the frozen strawberries
4) Add the frozen bananas (make sure they’re frozen for extra creaminess!)
5) Blend away!

Benefits of strawberry banana smoothies

Smoothies in general are a great way to increase your fruit, vegetable, and healthy fat intake.  They are a delicious addition to breakfast and perfect for a quick easy snack.  They’re kid friendly too!  My kids are also a fan of this kale cherry smoothie.

A few nutritional benefits we get from strawberries and bananas:

This particular smoothie is high in vitamin C, manganese (an essential mineral), and antioxidants from the strawberries.  Antioxidants contain anti-inflammatory properties which are great for cardiovascular and overall health.  Bananas are high in potassium which helps to regulate blood pressure and is great for heart health.  Bananas are also high in fiber which helps to regulate our digestive system and optimal bowel health.

A few nutritional benefits we get from chia seeds and coconut milk:

Chia seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and even contain a bit of protein!  Organic coconut milk is a great source of lauric acid – a beneficial fatty acid that can help protect the body from viruses and infections.  This smoothie is so good for you!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner I wanted to jazz things up a little to make it more fun!  We added strawberry hearts and some cocoa nibs to the top!  My kids thought they were magical and loved the festive garnishes.

How to make strawberry hearts

To cut strawberry hearts, cut off the green tops with a straight cut.  Next, place the strawberry on a cutting board cut side down.  Then, using a sharp knife, slice the strawberry into thin sections.  Start at the top of the strawberry and slice down through to the bottom.  Next, take a slice and lay it flat.  Cut it into a heart shape by rounding the top of the strawberry on each side.  So fun, right?  I hope you make this healthy strawberry banana smoothie recipe for Valentine’s Day!  Leave me a comment and rate the recipe if you do!

This Strawberry Banana Coconut Smoothie is super creamy and totally delcious. We love the classic flavor combination of strawberries and bananas and the addition of the coconut milk just puts it over the top! We added strawberry hearts and cocao nibs for the perfect Valentine's Day garnish.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 13.5 oz can chilled coconut milk I prefer the taste of "lite" or "simple" coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1/2 tablespoon chia seeds
  • cocao nibs, mini chocolate chips, and/or extra strawberries optional for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Dump the coconut milk into your high speed blender.
  • Add the chia seeds, frozen strawberries, and frozen bananas (make sure to use frozen bananas for an extra creamy smoothie!)
  • Blend away!
  • Drink immediately for best texture.

Notes

You can sub any dairy free milk you'd like in place of the coconut milk.
If you'd like a sweeter smoothie you can add in 1/2-1 tablespoon of honey.
