Oh my goodness this Date Sweetened Dairy Free Hot Chocolate is SO GOOD! I was freezing my buns off one morning, then all of a sudden got a huge hankering for some hot chocolate. So I decided to whip up this bad boy. And of course I had to throw some pumpkin pie spice in there. Tis the season, right?
But no worries, if you’re over the whole pumpkin spice thing, just leave it out and enjoy a mug of the best dairy free hot chocolate. I threw all the ingredients into my Vitamix and it was ready in minutes. I love the Vitamix because the motor is so powerful, it will heat up the contents of your blender if you leave it running for a few minutes. It’s the best blender to use to make this dairy free hot chocolate. If you don’t have a Vitamix, or a heating option on your blender, just warm it on the stove for a few minutes after blending. Be sure to not boil it or have it on the heat too long. It will start to thicken and won’t be the most pleasant of textures. Here’s the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe:
I like my hot chocolate creamy and dreamy and this recipe sure hits the spot. I just love this time of year and have so many festive recipes I want to share with you! But in the meantime, snuggle up on the couch with a comfy blanket and a cup of this delicious dairy free homemade hot cocoa. Enjoy!
Date Sweetened Dairy Free Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- 1 cup filtered water
- 1/4 cup cashews soaked for 2 hours (for best results)
- 3 pitted medjool dates
- 1/2 tablespoon raw cocao powder
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice optional
Instructions
- Drain the water from the cashews.
- Place all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy. About 3-5 minutes.
- Gently warm on the stove if your blender is unable to heat up the hot chocolate.
Notes
This recipe is pretty customizable. If you want it sweeter, add another date or two. If you want it more chocolatey, add some more cocao powder a teaspoon at a time.
If you don't have a high-speed blender, it may take longer to achieve a smooth consistency.
Leave our the pumpkin spice for a plain hot chocolate.
If your dates aren't soft, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes before blending.
