Chocolate Chip Almond Flour Cookies – Ingredients
Almond flour (not almond meal) – the only flour in this gluten free chocolate chip cookie recipe. It’s higher in protein and makes delicious baked goods.
Sea salt – be sure to use pure sea salt when you can, it’s not processed with chemicals like normal table salt is.
Baking soda – gives these almond flour cookies a bit of rise.
Coconut sugar – a granulated sweetener that slightly resembles the deeper flavor of brown sugar. It’s unrefined and has beneficial trace minerals in it. Unlike other recipes that may have a whole cup brown sugar, these cookies have only 1/4 cup!
Maple syrup – pure maple syrup adds a great depth of flavor and is the perfect choice for a natural liquid sweetener.
Avocado oil – gives some softness to these cookies. You can substitute melted coconut oil if you’d like.
Egg – Adds some body and keeps these delicious cookies from crumbing.
Vanilla extract – you just need a small amount to add a hint of vanilla into these cookies
Chocolate chips – can’t have the best chocolate chip cookie recipe without them! I use dairy free chocolate chips like these or these.
Chocolate Chip Almond Flour Cookies – How To Make
First, combine all the dry ingredients – the almond flour, salt, baking soda, and coconut sugar. Whisk until combined.
Next, add in the maple syrup, avocado oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Use a wooden spoon to mix everything together until a dough is formed.
Mix in the chocolate chips.
Using a 1.5 tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop the dough onto a parchment lined baking sheet and gently flatten the cookies before placing them in the oven.
Bake the cookies for about 9-11 minutes until the edges get golden brown.
Chocolate Chip Almond Flour Cookies – Tips
If you use a cookie scoop that’s a different size than mine, be sure to adjust the bake time accordingly.
When flattening the cookie dough before baking, I like to wet my fingers with some water so the dough won’t stick to them.
Let the cookies cool to room temperature for best texture.
I like to store my almond flour chocolate chip cookies in a non airtight container. Almond flour has a high oil content, making baked goods soften over time.
To combat this, I like to expose the cookies to some air when storing to help dry them out a bit. This is just personal preference. 🙂
