Is Butcherbox worth it?
I was drawn to ButcherBox meat delivery for a variety of reasons. One being I couldn’t find a good price on grass fed beef and humanely raised meat near me.
I loved that I could get high quality meat delivered straight to my door. It’s basically like having an online butcher!
There’s something about not having to buy meat at the grocery store that’s pretty magical.

ButcherBox Review – How It Works
If you’re nervous about ordering meat online, don’t be! ButcherBox makes ordering meat a breeze. Their website is easy to use and they have great customer service if you ever have any questions.
How ButcherBox works:
Step 1: Set up an account. You can use this link to receive free meat!
Step 2: Choose your subscription type. Choose between:
- Custom Box
- Mixed Curated Box
- Beef and Chicken
- Beef and Pork
- All beef
I always go with the custom box so I can choose exactly what cuts of meat I want. If you’re content having ButcherBox send you whatever cuts they have, go for the other boxes – you’ll save a little money too!
Step 3: Choose your box size:
Classic Box (9-14 lbs.)
Big Box (18-26 lbs.)
Step 4: Choose your billing date. This is customizable according to your needs and can be changed in your account settings at any time.
Step 5: Choose the frequency you want your box delivery to occur. The options are every 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. This setting can also be changed at any time in your account settings. I like getting my box every month.
Step 6: Add any other items you may want from the “member deals” section and checkout to complete your box order!

ButcherBox Review – Butcher Box Prices
ButcherBox prices vary depending on what size box you get, and what add-ons you may have in your box.
But here are the general prices:
Classic Box – $159.00 which comes to about $11.35-$17.66 per pound
Big Box – $288.00 which comes to about $11.07-$16 per pound
The above prices are for a “custom box.” If you want to go with the “curated box” option, you’ll save some money!
The Pros:

They often run promotions. These vary but for example, I recently payed a one time fee of 25$ and now I get a pack of free bacon in each box for the life of my membership! They always offer some sort of discount code for your first order.
Packed with dry ice to ensure freshness
Customizable – change your billing date, box size, meat cuts and more at any time in your account settings!
Great customer service
They offer member deals
Easily cancel if it’s not for you!
The Cons:
Packaging of the actual meat is not the best. I always have some packages in every box that leak when I thaw them. I learned that the hard way when the raw meat juice leaked all over my fridge.
To combat this I always make sure to thaw the meat in a container to catch any juice that might leak. I definitely wish the packaging was better but it’s not a deal breaker for me.
It can be pricey. For me, but not everyone, ButcherBox is a bit of a splurge – but it’s one that’s worth it. Feeding my family high quality food is really important to me, and it’s worth the price. And unfortunately do to supply issues, they recently raised their prices.
I wish in general that healthy food was cheaper. But I’ve accepted that it’s not and we budget for it.
The meat can be delivered late – which unfortunately means the meat can be thawed upon delivery. But fear not! ButcherBox will always replace any meat that isn’t frozen to a safe temperature when it arrives at your door.
A late box is usually not the fault of the meat delivery subscription but more-so the postal carrier. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control so it’s best just to go with the flow on this one and replace any meat that didn’t arrive frozen.
Final Thoughts
Is Butcher box worth it? Overall, I highly recommend ButcherBox. The pros heavily outweigh the cons for me, and I’ve been very happy with the quality of the meat! The taste says it all.
And let’s be honest, having it shipped right to your door is pretty awesome.
